Rachel McDaniel

Rachel McDaniel is the Outreach and Development Coordinator for Flint Riverkeeper. She lives in Pike County, Georgia, which has 23 miles of the Flint River as its western boundary. 

Rachel attended college at Georgia Southern University and received bachelor’s degrees in journalism and creative writing as well as an associate’s degree in English from Gordon College. During her time as executive editor of The George-Anne at GSU, she married Matthew McDaniel and they now have two nature-loving daughters together. She worked for 24 years at several different newspapers (including 17 years at the Pike County Journal Reporter). 

Her first river experiences included swimming with her brothers across the Flint River at ‘Pobiddy Beach’ and playing in the shoals downstream from the Pobiddy Road bridge in Talbot County, Georgia. As an adult, she developed an insatiable appetite for trips down the river and she is just miles away from attaining the goal she set with a friend to travel the Flint River from source to sea.
